Picktastic : For The Win was created by two dudes that love sports, Timmy and Brando. Both dudes have a pretty extensive background in software engineering, particularly for the web, so it was only a matter of time before they would find a way to bring the two together.
The first attempt was a catastrophic failure. Brando and Timmy attempted to throw a football and a mobile phone into an industrial-strength blender to create what was believed would be the ultimate sports beverage. The idea here was that, theoretically, it would be a way to track your fantasy players more accurately over mobile devices. Obviously, this didn't work out so well.
Then, they tried making a social networking website centered around high school and collegiate sports. Timmy wrote five lines of code, and then realized that making a website is not easy stuff. They then saw an ad on TV for another website that was doing the exact same thing they wanted to do, so they did what anybody else would have done in that situation and just gave up because their website already sucked.
And then...
A short while later (or maybe it was before), something amazing happened on a brisk fall day in Corvallis, Oregon, which is where the Beavers of Oregon State University call home. Brando was in town to attend a football game that day in late 2006. In case you're wondering, no, this is not when the Beavs upset the #3 USC Trojans and snapped their seemingly endless Pac-10 winning streak. Brando has proved to be terrible luck whenever he attends Beaver games, and has only produced enough football magic for a win when the Beavs are playing a sugarpuff game.
At any rate, this particular fate-filled day was when the California Bears came to down to utterly annihilate and embarass the poor Beavs, who eventually recovered and went on to have a ten win season. Brando and Timmy had a conversation that day about making a website that anyone can participate in regardless of how sports crazy they are. It would need to be easy to use so that even Timmy's dad would actually want to log-in on a regular basis, and most of all would be FUN because people could talk trash and actually have metrics to back it up!
They didn't know it at the time (probably because the Beavs got beat so bad that they blocked that whole day out of their memory), but these initial conversations would eventually birth Picktastic.
Enough about Picktastic. Who are these two dudes anyway?
Timmy | Co-Founder
Well, Timmy is a programmer guy that works for a web agency in Portland called ISITE Design. They're somewhat like an ad agency, but they do a lot of web stuff. And design stuff. And a lot of other stuff, but Timmy focuses mostly on doing software and consulting. Timmy likes dogs, beers, traveling to foreign places (he wrote this blurb of nonesense on an plane to Spain), helping people work through their problems with the web, and fixing his own self-inflcted problems with the web.
Brando | Co-Founder
Brando is a programmer guy that actually can design user interfaces halfway decent. He works for a really big company up in Seattle where he writes code and plays with mobile phones all day. Brando also drives a cool car and likes dogs as well (Timmy and Brando both have pugs). If you ever see Brando on the street, you should ask him about creamed corn. It will be way funny. Trust me.
